Rescission is the right to cancel a loan shortly after signing by giving the money back. It is not required by federal law for unsecured loans, but most reputable tribal lenders include it, typically until 5 pm lender time on the next business day after funding.
Steps to rescind
- Find the rescission clause in your agreement; note the deadline and the lender's required method (email, portal, phone).
- Send written notice before the deadline, even if you also call.
- Authorize the lender to debit the full principal, or wire it, as the clause specifies.
- Keep the confirmation. The loan should show as closed with $0 owed.
If you miss the window
You can still pay the loan off early. Interest accrues daily, so paying off within a week costs only a few days of interest on a $500 loan. There is no prepayment penalty with lenders in our network. See rates and fees.
